George Orwell (;

Well, I found George Orwell’s “Shooting an Elephant” a bit disturbing. On the other hand, I liked the way that he structured his story(not the actual storyline). He made the audience feel as if they were at the scene themselves. George Orwell changes from tone to tone quite frequently. Most of the time it would be sad and disturbing. The audience also gets to see Orwell through his emotional changes: from embarassed to anger to a hint of compassion for the elephant.

There were many things in Orwell’s essay that made me feel uneasy. It was disturbing to know that Orwell had to kill an elephant under the peer pressure of the natives. He can make the audience from feeling sorry for him to making them feel sick. I find it disturbing that he shot the elephant five times and it still did not die :(

George Orwell also just uses one example from his personal experience besides using thrity short and confusing ones. He is very simple and precise in his writing and I admire him for that(except for the fact that he killed an elephant under peer pressure >:() Also, Orwell doesn’t have dialogue in his essay, meaning quotations marks. George Orwell’s writing is also very down-to-earth. It isn’t extremely exaggerating and you know what he is talking about. In some essay, it’s like a puzzle to find out what the person is trying to talk about.

To sum it up, I admire George Orwell’s style of writing but not how he treats animals :P
