The Depressed Person~
This story is about a depressed person’s life. In my opinion, I find this story disturbing because the depressed person seems to be drowning them self in so much pain and grief. Although her parents try to help her, they seem to be making her feel more guilty about herself. She is spending their money and feels as if they are wasting it on her. She feels as if she is the only person who has feelings, who can actually feel pain and grief in life. She is oblivious about everyone else’s feelings. She doesn’t realize that not everything in life is bad. She is blinded by all her bad memories and experiences and is held back from the real world. She is trapped: alone and depressed in her sad little world.
The footnotes in this story are realllly realllly long. Some footnotes take up a whole page. When DFW footnotes his writing, he puts descriptions that are off topic and mostly talks about the relationship between the depressed person and her therapist. She describes the therapist vividly so we can have an image of her. In the footnotes, he also includes more elaborate explanations of things.
